Abstract
We evaluated Ecc Keratoconus Design lens which was developed for fitting keratoconus using trial lenses. This study was carried out for 58 eyes diagnosed as keratoconus. We measured corrected visual acuity, conducted biomicroscopy, autokeratometry, and corneal topography and surveyed subjective symptoms before and after 1 month of wearing lens prescribed using trial lenses.
There were no significant differences for the radius of curvature of flatter meridian when comparing the final prescribed lens with corneal curvature. The number of lens fitting was 2.9 times and lens change was 1.9 times without changing a design. The corrected vision acuity was improved 0.1 than that of habitual contact lens.
The result of survey on subjective symptoms showed significant differences where hours of wearing lens increased compared to existing lens, comfort improved, pain decreased and distant vision improved, and although there were no significant differences for night driving, glaring and near vision, it was shown that uncomfortable symptoms improved.
From above, Ecc Keratoconous Design lens was relatively easy and adequate to fit when the base curve was selected based on the radius of curvature of the flattest meridian of the cornea and considered to improve overall clinical performances.
